"I think the very first true doom metal songs I heard were 'Nothing Left Inside', 'Scream' and 'Three Nights' by Black Flag (side two of the 'My War' lp) as a young kid into hardcore, even though I didn't know they were doom metal back then and I didn't have a fucking clue what doom metal was, and with them being a weird hardcore band at that point in their career it would've just been confusing (oh, to be 13 again)... All I knew was that in this point of my life these were the heaviest fucking songs I'd ever heard and I wanted to hear more music exactly like this... and from there a few years down the line discovering Saint Vitus (thanks to the SST catalogs), and Trouble, and Pentagram, and then the more extreme stuff like Grief, Winter and Earth."
