Quote:
Describing a good hardcore show is like trying to explain the feeling of skydiving, meeting your hero, or standing in the Sistine Chapel; there is simply no adequate way to explain the experience to those who have not been there.
Quote:
The most interesting place I regularly saw bands was a garage called the Junkyard, literally located in a junkyard owned by an older punk mechanic. Kids moshed in the midst of rebuilt transmissions, dismantled engines, and the shells of wrecked cars.
Quote:
I often kept certain feelings and opinions to myself, not wanting to have too much influence on the scene.
Quote:
There is a set of fundamental values that underlay much of the movement: positivity/clean living, lifetime commitment to the movement and its values, reserving sex for caring relationships, self actualization, spreading the subculture’s message, and involvement in progressive causes.
Quote:
Positive living holds different meanings for various members, including questioning and resisting society’s norms, having a positive outlook on life, being an individual, treating people with respect and dignity, and taking action to make the world a better place.
na temu promiskuiteta:
Quote:
Many sXers abstain from “promiscuous†sex (which they define as sex outside of a caring relationship), follow strict vegetarian or vegan diets, get sXe tattoos, and become involved in more formal social causes such as women’s rights, animal rights, or environmentalism. These behaviors are secondary to the collective identity.
Quote:
Reserving sex for caring relationships is an extension of the positive, clean lifestyle.
Quote:
Kent, a twenty-one-year-old CU student with several colorful tattoos, said, “My personal views have to do with self-respect, with knowing that I’m going to make love with someone I’m really into, not a piece of meat.â€
Quote:
Don’t ruin your life for something because it gives you pleasure.â€
o odnosima sxe i religije:
Quote:
The group advocates no form of religion and most adherents are deeply suspicious or critical of organized faiths.
vrlo zanimljivo mišljenje Reja Kapa (YOT i Shelter):
Quote:
Ray Cappo wrote, “I wanted to use music as a medium to spread a message of truth and self-betterment based on inner reflection and pure living†(Cappo 1993: iii).
Quote:
Technically, according to the “rules,†you can be homophobic and racist and fuckin’ sexist and shit like that and still technically be sXe. You’re not drinking, you’re not smoking, you’re not doing drugs.
neko je spominjao odnose politike i sxe pa sam našao ovakvo razmišljanje:
Quote:
Minneapolis sXe band the Real Enemy claimed their band had a political purpose as well:
We can’t limit our-selves to songs about friends and being stabbed in the back or singing about violent retribution that will never take place.
Ijan Mekaj je rekao sljedece:
Quote:
Minor Threat was together for about three years, and we played all over the god damn place. More and more people were coming out and you saw a lot more “Xs.†I guess the movement had sort of started, but in my mind I wasn’t interested in it being a movement. It ran conversely to my initial idea that it was a concert of individuals, as opposed to a movement. . . . What I look for in life is people who I respect, living and teaching by example, and I trust that human beings can make up their minds and make the right decisions for their own lives.
u sljedecem citatu sebe ce prepoznati strejteri iz BiH:
Quote:
How long an sXer would stay clean without the social support of the hardcore scene:
Someone told me once, I think it was my friend Bob, and this was definitely an extreme point of view, but he said you shouldn’t be considered sXe unless you had or could live like years without any other sXe friends. In a way, that’s totally off center. But it’s true. Can you . . . how many sXe kids are going to be sXe if there are not shows? How many sXe kids are going to be sXe if all their friends sold out? There’s not very many unfortunately. I think people just depend on the scene.
Quote:
The movement actually encourages participants to make the ideology their own, to create their own meanings. The flexibility of sXe meanings leads adherents to incorporate a variety of others’ beliefs and issues into their own sXe identities. Most adherents agree, however, that sXe should be more than an abstinence movement.
Izjava jednog od likova koji radi za holandski Commitment Records:
Quote:
For the people involved in Commitment Records, straight edge means more than just not drinking, not smoking and not using drugs. In our eyes these are just necessary conditions to be able to strife [sic] for the really important things: creating a society, based on mutual respect, without prejudice, hate and ignorance; working for a world without the big differences in welfare which exist nowadays, a world where humans, animals and the environment have priority, and not economic growth and monetary considerations. There is no place for hardline attitudes, racism, sexism, homophobia, nationalism, Satanism and machoism in straight edge.
toliko za prvi dio.
