Seldom does a band debut as strong as Canada’s Allguilty. Despite its hardcore sounding moniker and its modern metal looking artwork “Primary Color Solution†is an impressive slab of groovy technical death metal, slight electronics and blunt powerviolence. Thrusting their assault forward with both blasting power and unconventional melody, broad comparisons can be made to Belgium’s Emeth (“Reticulated†era) and in their more forward thinking sections bands like Burnt By the Sun and Cephalic Carnage Vocally, the powerviolence is most obvious as influences from Benümb and Crowbar are noticeable. Structurally, Allguilty have most in common with the likes of (classic) Morbid Angel, Krisiun and Decapitated as far as riffing is concerned and drum-wise (early) Cryptopsy and Kataklysm can be recognized.
Allguilty know how to write an engaging song and aren’t afraid to look out of the box when doing so. All tracks of this record go through multiple tempo changes, bouncing in and out of subgenres – all while remaining coherent, groovy and catchy to boot. With multiple vocal styles, fitting electronics and an uncanny feel for dynamics this act is able to take a genre and make it feel fresh and exciting again. Lyrically, the band avoids the typical genre subjects and its abstract lay-out only serve to accentuate the individuality of this unit. The production of “Primary Color Solution†is nothing short of amazing. All instruments sit equally in the mix while maintaining an incredible level of clarity, texture and depth. On all aspects Allguilty have delivered an album that will possibly set the global metal scene on fire with its clinical precision, singular vision and impressive technical finesse.
