At the beginning there is „A“ like „album title“.
Even before the firs note has been written down in summer 2005, Frankurt `s cult thrashers Tankard have decided to call their next album „The Beauty And The Beer“.
This might seem a little bit unconventional, but it truly is tradition among the guys around singer Gerre. “First we have the name of the album, then the coverartwork and then some songs are written around thatâ€, he describes with a smile in his face. “That `s how things work with Tankard.“
And it has never been the wrong way so far. Especially the last years have been extremely successful for the boys being able to gather even more respect than before.
Without any doubt Tankard are an institution – not only in the German metal scene. For almost 25 years (2007 will be the big anniversary) the German tankards have been showing the world what they can offer – and what they will offer.
Cool and flowing like freshly poured out beer this combo has been running. Without seeming to be old-fashioned or bad tasting.
They have been a constantly working group that has always stayed fresh at the same time. So Gerre and his band members have chosen to work together with producer Andy Classen several years ago, which has been, like we all know now, a very good idea.
A new standard, a fresh (beer) crown is the result of it.
Also “The Beauty And The Beer†has been produced in Andy `s Stage-One-Studios – within a really relaxed mood. “We know each other in the meanwhileâ€, Gerre tells. “There is almost no fights or bigger discussions. We are all working into the same direction.“
And so we have, with „The Beauty And The Beer“, again an album that Tankard `s discography can be very proud of. Full of thrashing power all songs are grooving like hell. Strong choruses and good mood are the big plus of this album and show the high art of brewing music the band is able to do. No matter if it is the straight thrash track (“Ice-Olationâ€, “Metaltometalâ€, the motivating headbanger („The Beauty And The Beast“, “We Still Drink The Old Waysâ€) or the wonderfully funny Tankard-style (“Frankfurt: We Need More Beerâ€), the band shows itself again with all their charme and uniqueness.
Indeed there is a lot that Tankard can still do after almost 25 years: there is, for example, the spectacular videoshoot for the song „The Beauty And The Beast“, in which hops loving bellies swim in a whirlpool next to a naked beauty and give their best to gain some women `s attention in Frankfurt `s cult club “Speak Easy†afterwards. Unfortunately the girls keep looking bored, though Gerre is really giving his best to make them want him.
The clip has been arranged and produced by Mario Stahn, who also has a big name in the commercial bussines.
The clip `s charme lies in the missing of a storyboard and the spontaneous and funny filming – as well as in several bottles of beer the guys had to drink that day.
Once more Tankard could underline their cult status with this clip.
And there is also the touring plans of the band. Next to numerous shows in already well-known territories (the Partysan Festival is just one good example therefore) the band will play Croatia,
Bosnia and Serbia for the very first time of their career this year.
Gerre is always looking forward like a king of beer to that. Not only because of the audience, of course:
„There are still so many different kinds of beer that I have never tried in my life before…“
