He is closely associated with Peter Taylor, who worked with him as his assistant manager at various clubs in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. In January 2009, more than four years after Clough's death, his son Nigel has followed in his father's footsteps in serving by becoming manager of Derby County. He had preceded this with a 10-year spell as manager of Burton Albion, where Peter Taylor also had managed.
Clough was portrayed by Michael Sheen in the 2009 film The Damned United.
