Ormus formed in bosnia herzegovina in 2003, but we think of them as a band from 2005 on. Every year they released a demo, which formed the album at last. You're reading about it now. They say they play melodic thrash/death, which is what the band from sarajevo really play. I guess the female play the main part on NuSkull now, just today I wrote about the polish old school thrash playing band The No-Mads, now here's Ormus, who attack the ears with real hard grunts, Sion's voice is heavy and inhuman, You can hear at first it's a female voice, but filled with hate and anger, everything but girly, though she's very pretty and slim. The band needs the indivduality of Sion's voice, because the music doesn't show anythig new. Chewed down themes, with good sound though, techincal play, it has the raw power, the growing energy that the girl stands for. Zormus formed the band, who's playing the rythm guitar, and I think he had a female vocals fronted band in mind, they already are through a frontman change, Milenko (Joe) Jokic is behind the bass, Nemo brings the thick riffs, and a few solos, and Srdan Duletic is behind the drums. He doesn't show any extras, he just play what he has to, he is punctual, but if he would be more technical he would change a lot of things ont he stuff.
God's Grief is melodic death metal with thrashy and heavy solos, and int he background there's a little black and doom metal even, with some heavier drums it could be industrial easily, it sticks together of the following themes: In Flames, at The Gates, Arch Enemy, because of the vocals more Holy Moses, maybe Crisis. The beginning Last Bride is a strong and massive song, which is put together well. My Beloved Death is slowly and broken at first but speeds up and becomes a deep aggressive song, (S)he gets interesting at the middle, but All lets You forget it soon.. in this song theres everything that's typical for the band, it suits the well. Thick riffs, slowing down, speeding up, tearing, flying, operating with some dark and doomy tunes, a mad solo ends this fantastic song. A Clad In White begins with mean pulsation, and keeps it, a somewhat thrashy thing, with good riffs, with deranged vocals, Damned We Are is a very insignificant song, it has some not bad themes, but is a very weak piece on this unction which grows into a mass by the end, and is of high standard. The bginning is very heavy, but You are me gets lost into only a bitter middletempo. Alone seems modern, could be even metalcore with a beginning like this, but soon it shows its whole self, the tunes return at points, it's one of the easiest songs to digest on the album, here they show how thy can make music, but we already knew.. a little too much solos, but no problem, we don't get that in Black Sun, haha. Very scandinavian killing themes, which cleanse, and turn into thrashing sounds, here I feel like Sion's voice is competing with Sabina Classen's, but they don't reach the highs of Holy Moses.. and maybe this wasn't the goal, even if this songs a fucking great one with choir, and a doomy-gloomy solo. The end provides some nice headbanging themes, Lords Of The Heights is an energic, and melodic song, Srdan Duletic is really good here with the drums, the whole band's pulsating together…
This band with its plain song titles and lyrics has some suprises for who is interested in this kind of extremity. It's not individual, oh no, buti n its own sphere a stuff of quality!! Typical live band, gets boring on cd, maybe with some more colour into the vocals this could have been avoided, some more grunts here and there, but then we'd say it's a Karyn Crisis copy mixed with some scandinavian flavor...
